Guided Flyfishing and Personal Trout Guide

A one-on-one day is the best way to make real progress with your flyfishing. It is just you and me, the whole day built around what you want to learn and the pace that suits you.

A day built around you

Everyone comes with different goals. Some want to catch their first trout on fly, some want to iron out a casting fault, and some want to fish harder water with more confidence. We talk it through at the start and shape the day from there, with no set script and no one else to keep up with.

All the gear is supplied and the boat is AMSA surveyed. You just turn up ready to fish and to learn.

Casting and water craft

Good fishing starts with a cast you can rely on and the ability to read water. We work on loop control, distance, accuracy and dealing with the wind, then put it to use on real fish. I show you how to spot trout, where they hold, how they feed and how to present a fly so it looks right to them.

Whether we are on a river or working the edges of a lake, I teach you what I am seeing and why I am making each decision, so you can do it on your own next time.

For improvers and experienced anglers

If you already fish well, a personal day is a chance to push into the finer skills: subtle presentations, matching the hatch, tricky sighted fish and the reads that separate a good angler from a great one. Over more than forty years I have picked up plenty of small things that make a real difference, and I enjoy passing them on.

We go as far as you want to take it, and you leave a better angler than you arrived.
