Flyfishing Charter

A guided flyfishing charter is the fastest way to get onto trout in the Snowy Mountains lakes and, over summer, the shallow lagoons of Tasmania's Central Highlands. Whether you have never held a fly rod or you have fished for years, we fit the day to you.

What a charter day looks like

We meet early and talk through what the water is doing, then head out in the boat to find fish that are actually feeding. I supply everything you need, rods, reels, lines, waders, boots, lunch, snacks and refreshments, so all you bring is yourself and a set of eyes. The boats are AMSA surveyed, so you can settle in and concentrate on the fishing.

Depending on conditions we might work the edges from the boat, or step out and fish the shallows on foot. I read the day as it unfolds and move us to where the trout are, rather than sitting on one spot and hoping.

Sight fishing the shallows

The fishing I love most is watching a trout and casting to it. On calm mornings we look for fish tailing and cruising the shallow margins, feeding on midge as it hatches, or up in the film taking mayfly on a warm afternoon. When there is a bit of breeze we fish the wind lanes, the slicks where food collects and the trout patrol.

It is close, visual, exciting fishing. You see the fish, you make the cast, and you watch the take. There is nothing else like it.

Tuition for every level

If you are starting out, we cover the lot at your pace: how to cast, how to read the water, how to spot fish and how to play and land them. No rush and no jargon you cannot follow. Plenty of people catch their first trout on fly with me and go home hooked.

If you already fish, we sharpen the finer points: presentation, leader and fly choice, and the small reads that turn a follow into a hook-up. Across the NSW lakes and the Tasmanian highlands the water changes, and I am happy to share what I have learned over more than forty years chasing these fish.
